The Full Story
Warm, professional, trauma‑informed, and aligned with your EMDR‑led online practice
I have always been deeply interested in people - their stories, their inner worlds, and the layers of complexity that shape how they move through life. That curiosity led me to retrain as a mature student in my 30s, completing a First Class Honours Degree in Psychology (with English). I was particularly drawn to developmental psychology, memory systems, culture, childhood development, and the theories behind mental health and emotional healing. The English Literature modules strengthened my appreciation for stories, archetypes, and the journeys people take to make sense of themselves.
After my degree, I knew I wanted to work directly with individuals and support them to change their stories in meaningful ways. I went on to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling (with Commendation) at the University of Hertfordshire in 2007, training in:
-
Psychodynamic theory
-
Person‑centred theory
-
Attachment theory
These foundations still underpin my work today. They give me a framework of curiosity and compassion, helping me understand how someone sees themselves, others, and the world — and how we can gently shift those patterns.
Early Clinical Experience
My early voluntary placements were with charities supporting people affected by addiction, trauma, and social oppression, including racism, misogyny, poverty, and homelessness. These experiences gave me in‑depth exposure to trauma presentations and taught me something crucial:
General talking therapy alone does not always ease trauma symptoms.
For some clients, it can even trigger re‑experiencing and destabilisation.
This realisation shaped the direction of my career. I became committed to learning approaches that genuinely help people heal trauma, regulate their nervous systems, and process overwhelming experiences safely.
Why EMDR Became My Main Therapeutic Approach
Over time, I trained extensively in EMDR therapy, which I now use as my primary modality. EMDR offers a structured, evidence‑based way to:
-
reprocess traumatic memories
-
reduce emotional intensity
-
build emotional regulation
-
strengthen resilience
-
shift negative beliefs
-
support long‑term healing
It is transformational work, and it aligns with my values: steady, compassionate, client‑centred, and grounded in the science of how the brain and body heal.
Ongoing Training & Professional Development
I am committed to continual learning and regularly update my skills to support clients with trauma, attachment wounds, and neurodivergent experiences. My further training includes:
-
Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR)
-
Attachment‑Informed EMDR (healing early childhood wounds)
-
Intensive EMDR training
-
Adapting EMDR for Neurodivergent Clients
-
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
-
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
-
Mindfulness‑based approaches
-
Ego-States/Parts Informed & Internal Family Systems (IFS)‑informed thinking
I also have an understanding of ADHD, Dyslexia, and Autism, and I work in a way that is structured, predictable, and neurodivergent‑friendly.
I regularly attend EMDR Association UK conferences to stay aligned with best practice and emerging research.
How I Work Today
I now work exclusively online, offering trauma‑informed EMDR therapy to adults across the UK. My approach is relational, steady, and grounded in the belief that healing happens when people feel safe, understood, and supported to reconnect with their strengths.
My aim is to help clients move towards lives that feel calmer, more connected, and more hopeful - with a clearer sense of who they are and what they deserve.
